After creating the Student Art Guide, which has become one of the largest blogs in New Zealand (and one of the largest worldwide that is dedicated to high school Art education) I began to receive many requests from others seeking advice about building websites and driving traffic to these. In brief, my advice can be summarised as follows:
- Avoid free website builders and instead create a WordPress website hosted at SiteGround, which costs from $3.95 a month. I have written an in depth article article that outlines the disadvantages of free website builders, as well as the risks of relying solely on social platforms. This article includes a video tutorial, showing how easy this is to set up. If you are hoping to have any kind of creative career, I recommend that you do this as soon as possible. If you are a Graphic Design or Design Technology student, I recommend that you find a way to base your Coursework project around this!
I am in the process of creating Website Dreaming, a site that is dedicated to sharing everything I know about creating your own website. Feel free to visit me there!
